Fresh New Faces At Dundee Animal Hospital

Dundee Animal Hospital is excited to announce we will be welcoming our first group of externs from the Burlington Veterinary Assistant Program this week! Students from three of our local high school districts (U-46, D300, & D301) will be joining our teams at the Dundee and Elgin locations where they will be observing and learning about the veterinary field while earning high school credits towards graduation.

The Burlington Veterinary Assistant Program is one of the new pathway programs being offered for local high school students interested in careers such as veterinary medicine. The program allows students to receive both in-class instruction at the Burlington “mock hospital” facility and then advance to on-site externship observation and experience at local veterinary hospitals. Students will be observing and learning about proper animal restraint, exam procedures, pharmacology & medication administration, hospitalized patient care, and laboratory procedures from our experienced and knowledgeable staff.

Amber Ballard, Program Coordinator for the Burlington Veterinary Assistant Program, says that students are excited about the program and beginning their externship experiences this week, and Dundee Animal Hospital is likewise excited to be one of the first hospitals to join the program!

We look forward to providing opportunities for our bright young externs to learn and grow. In addition, we look forward to sharing our knowledge and love of veterinary care in the hopes of furthering their interest in and passion for a future career in veterinary medicine!
